Course Offerings

Traditional
Traditional classes are ones taken on-campus in a classroom. This includes day, evening, multi-mode, 7-week, and weekend classes. Mutli-mode classes are slightly different than the other traditional types. Multi-mode is a way of offering two classes using the same room or same time slot. On the first day of class, the professor will tell you what days/times the course will meet. This will never be on a different day or time. For example, if a class is scheduled to meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8:45 pm, but it is multi-mode, it may instead meet only Mondays from 6-8:45pm. Click schedule to go to the HCC Schedule. Find the course you're interested in and look for the instructional method. This will tell you if it is lecture, multi-mode, online, or independent study. Look at the days and times to determine if it is a day, evening, or weekend class. Some of the traditional courses may utilize WebCT. Your instructor will tell you if that is the case.

Online
Online courses are courses where the work is done outside of the traditional classroom. This can include from home, the computer lab, work, etc... Orientation is mandatory at the start of each semester for each online course you are taking. Students usually are assigned any combination of the following: textbook readings, projects, discussion postings, and testings. Classes are conducted via WebCT. For more information on WebCT, click on its link in the top menu bar. Click online for a listing of courses offered.

Independent Study
This type of course gives you five weeks to complete coursework and any applicable testing. Coursework is completed using a textbook and working in the computer lab, or at home if you have the appropriate software. Most of these classes are conducted via WebCT. For more information on WebCT, click on its link in the top menu bar. Each course is one credit hour. Click independent study for a listing of courses offered. Take note of the classes not offered by WebCT. An initial orientation is required before beginning your first independent study course. This orientation is different from the orientation required for online courses. For information about orientation times and locations, call 253-7329 or 253-7330.
